Like ducks to water! February 23, 2008 Jazzy (UK) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
We have two ageing cats (aged 15 and 16.5+) so I wasn't sure whether this would work or not. I omitted the first step and put the Litter Kwitter next to the toilet. Both cats started using it straight away (eldest cat first).
Then we moved onto the next stage - onto the toilet. Again, the eldest cat was no problem. The younger cat wasn't so sure at first but was soon using it no problem. A week and a half later and we moved onto the orange stage. Eldest cat, no problem at all. Youngest cat not so sure. We went back to the red stage for a day and then the orange stage with the red tray underneath the orange. Then onto the orange stage again. Both cats using it quite happily. Only the green stage to go!
FOR: A great product, sturdy and well designed. Easy to clean. The DVD is very helpful.
AGAINST: Nothing
HANDY HINT: Reward successes, ignore failures (few and far between). Keep the treats in the bathroom so they associate the toilet and the bathroom with treats. Don't stand watching - cats are very private and they don't like "performing!" Give lots of praise and cuddles.
SUMMARY: Costing me a fortune in treats because they are doing so well and I have to keep rewarding them! I am using more expensive litter too so that it doesn't clump together when it falls into the toilet as it does occasionally. You need to keep a vaccuum cleaner handy as litter goes onto the floor - but hopefully it won't be for long.
I did not expect older cats to take to it but I desperately wanted rid of the litter tray and they don't go out as much now they are getting on a bit! They seem to prefer it much more than the litter tray and so does my kitchen floor - no more wet paws. I wish I knew about this product earlier, it is fantastic!
Absolutely Brilliant!! October 13, 2009 Ash (Newcastle upon Tyne, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My friend told me he was traing his cat to use the toilet and of course I got excited and immediatly started looking around. He told me about 'Litter Kwitter' and thought to myself it's either gonna work or its not and I'll try anything once so I bought one. I've got a 16 year old cat and she's beautiful but boy does she leave a stink, as we all know cats do. 'Litter Kwitter' arrived and I placed it on the floor in the bathroom at first so she would get used to keep going to the bathrrom, she took to it straight away. She knew thats where her place was now in the bathroom. A few days later, I put it up on the loo and placed her up there. she had a sniff and a peek and then jumped straight down! We accidently shut the bathroom door and she was meowing to get in so first thoughts were she needed the loo, so i opened the door and followed her in, she sniffed where the tray used to be but obviously it was on the loo so I picked her up and placed her on the tray, she did her business then jumoed down. The next time she needed it she went in by herself and jumped straight up. I was amazed!! And now without hesitation she jumps straight up, sits the correct way and does wat she needs to do. I moved her onto the next ring today so im anxious to see how this one will pan out (pardon the pun) But my advise is if you have faith in your cat and shes active then i suggest you get one. People may think your a lil weird but who cares at least your house will be smell free. But the next thing I have to do is teach her to flush the loo!!
Me? How? A cry for help! March 16, 2007 Critch (Madrid, Spain) 14 out of 25 found this review helpful
Not everyone is going to want a Litter Kwitter. Some people actually LIKE the smell of their animal's waste and ENJOY the process of bagging it up - of course I'm joking! Litter Kwitter has revolutionised life in my household and reminded me why we got our cat in the first place.
Before we felt stable enough to start our own family a cat was the purrfect compromise, affectionate and fun and a way to keep us together. Later when our son was born he naturally became the main focus of our attention and his potty-training was an important part of that. Those years of inattention must have seemed trebly long or more on cat years, but later once I invested in the Litter Kwitter it was like having my son back again.
I only wish we had bought Litter Kwitter then, because potty-training is a slow process and I expect the simple, logical steps outlined on the DVD would have been just as effective for helping make our little boy into a little man - what is good for the cat is good for the gander! So if YOU are a cat lover, pop your pussy on the rim and tell me you don't sense the warm glow of love for your pet fill your home all over again. I did!
cat toilet trial December 1, 2009 Jean Southcott (UK) I have only just started using the litter quitter. I have had to change some of my cats to flushable cat litter first. I have found so far that they do not like jumping up to the loo so i have put the whole unit on the floor. So i need to wait and see how they progress. My next plan if this fails is to explore options to have a cat try system that can be connected to you existing waste system. i also feel that you need time and patience as you need to clear the tray each time it is used,Litter Kwitter Cat Toilet Training System Tray Loo
Think very carefully before buying this! April 5, 2010 Eenymo (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this about 6 months ago. I have 2 cats, one is now nearly 1 and one is nearly 2. With my youngest cat, it worked best. I followed the instructions carefully, and within literally a few weeks, he was using it to pee. However, he only ever used it once to poo, when I basically coerced him with his favourite treats one day. That was the only time. Because the instructions are to remove all litter trays, he obviously had to poo somewhere, so luckily he chose my vinyl covered bathroom floor, so that it was easy to clean up. I live on my own, with no children and rarely have overnight visitors, so this was possible to put up with for a few months, although it was quite disgusting to have to deal with every day. I persevered for a few months, hoping it would change over time, however it didn't.
With my older cat, however, it has been a complete disaster story. Because I work during the day, it took me several months to notice that he had not been using it, but instead had been using the sofa in my spare room instead, which I barely go into. He had obviously been finding the Kwitter so uncomfortable that he had preferred to pee on the sofa. By the time I discovered this, the sofa was totally wrecked - over £200 worth of damage. This cat is very fussy, he had always been very meticulous about his toileting habits before. He started peeing underhandedly on beds, but under the duvets, so that I wouldn't notice until I went to bed myself at nights (which is very unpleasant!) and I can't now leave any blankets / clothes out, because he now sometimes decides to pee on them, they need to all be locked away in a room / cupboard he can't get into. As soon as I noticed the sofa, I immediately replaced their litter trays, because I can't continue living like this, I'm a very clean person myself.
However, the worst outcome of it has been this: my oldest cat had to be rushed to the vets hospital a few days ago because I had noticed over a few days that he had been straining to pee in his litter tray. Then he started peeing blood, and when I lifted him up he would yelp in pain. When I noticed it getting worse, I had to rush him to an emergency appointment in the middle of the night, and he is now undergoing tests through his normal vets for a urine infection. Luckily I have caught it in time, and hopefully he should now be fine once the test results come back and his treatment can properly start, but they basically think it has been brought on by stress. He may have to go on a special diet now for the rest of his life, which I can not really afford....Incidentally, the whole vets business has cost me over £220 so far...
Although I have no actual proof that using this product has been the actual cause of my cats illness, I have very strong suspicions that it has had a huge part in it, since his toileting habits completely changed the minute I introduced this. The vet told me first off as soon as I entered the room that with urine infections, stress is one of the main causes, and once a cat has had one once, it is very likely to return so you have to take special care with the cat for the rest of it's life.
Please remember if considering buying this product: It is a brilliant idea, if it does work out for you, it is an amazing thing, your home will definitely be more hygienic and you will save a lot of hassle with carrying heavy litter home, costs etc...However, I just wanted to share my experience with you, because this is what can happen, to allow people to make the most informed decision they can. Cats seem to really enjoy scratching about in litter and it's what comes naturally to them, and going against nature's way sometimes backfires.
