No problem with the unit at all, I keep the water clean though by removing daily any biscuits that have dropped in. I also wash off the replacable filter weekly, and give the pump a good clean monthly if I remember.
Sounds like a lot of cleaning but it takes only a couple of minutes to do the lot really. I don't replace the filters every three weeks though, they last for ages IF YOU CLEAN THEM REGULARLY.
All in all it's been a great bit of kit, and all three of our cats now drink regularly from the fountain (although it took one of them nearly a year to do so, but he is dim !!)

I had to encourage cats to use the fountain, they were not really very interested. Cleaning it and leaving it plugged in was a pain, so it ended up in the bin and the cat got a traditional bowl again which could just be popped into dishwasher! The replacement filters went in the bin therefore with the fountain
