| Customer Reviews: My cats like this but clean it well May 9, 2010 Ms. R. L. A. Amelan (Wilmslow, Cheshire) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had this water fountain sitting outside my kitchen for about two years now and I must confess that some of my seven cats like it. (It is not noisy.) I, however, am not so sure.
It is made up of a base into which you pour water and a dome that sits on top. The electric water circulating pump is situated in the base where you can also find the filter (you need to buy packs of replacement ones). The dome itself comes apart and you need to ensure that you clean this regularly. When setting up the fountain, it is necessary to fill the dome with water. The unit works by pumping water from the base over the dome and the cats drink it as it flows down the outside of the dome, which means that the water covers quite a surface area. This means that it can be accessed from all sides.
My reservation concerns the hygiene. To ensure that the water stays fresh, you need to ensure that the unit is thoroughly cleaned on a very regular basis. Fortunately, it does go in the dishwasher and the electrical pump is easily disconnected. Provided you do this, I think that all should be well but I do have cats that prefer to drink from a tap still.
Would I advise you to buy it? The answer to this must be yes - provided, that is, you are prepared to clean the unit regularly and carefully. For my part, I am actually going to buy an additional fountain shortly, however, my gut reaction is to go for one where the water pours from a single channel into a pool beneath and not over an entire dome. I just think that the water may be a little purer this way.
