I bought these to cut the claws on my two cats. I also expect to use it on my dog. If like me, you've never done it before, you're probably really nervous about the whole prospect of such a task. You might also be looking at these clippers thinking they're far too big to clip something delicate like cat claws.
Well, it's true, they are a decent size - almost like a set of secateurs that you'd use in the garden... but in my opinion that's a good thing. I did some research on the best way to do this, and many people advocate using regular nail clippers. It makes sense, but I've never found that style of clipper to be very easy to use. And when you've got an angry moggy wedged under your arm, the last thing you want to be doing is wrestling with the clippers to get them in a comfortable position. These clippers wedge firmly in my hand, with a nice, solid, padded grip. The shears themselves are quite chunky but they're a really good size to do cat claws... and probably any other type of claw.
The file though is the most curious part. I wasn't too sure what to expect and it looks gimmicky - it's like a pink emery board that spins thanks to a AA battery. But it works really well and it didn't freak my cats out at all like I expected it to (in fact I think they rather enjoyed it). The clippers are good for getting the claws shorter and the file is great for smoothing off any rough bits.
Yes, they're about 10 quid more than the others on the market but in my opinion well worth it. They'll last for ever (you even get a spare file, which I can't imagine needing!) and I am in no way daunted about doing this job anymore.
