Easy reading, sound advice January 18, 2003 61 out of 61 found this review helpful
This book is great for the novice barfer. It is easy to follow and certainly convinced me of the need to move over to this diet. My puppy looks great on his meat, veg and bones and rarely misses a meal. I really would recommend lots of reading with barf but certainly get this book first as it will give you a sound basis from which to start from.
Excellent, logical, easy-to-follow plan March 4, 2002 109 out of 110 found this review helpful
I appreciated the straight-forward dietary advice in this book - pretty much the only resource in book form I've found for feeding my dog a regular-food diet. The author doesn't spend time on soapbox diatribes against packaged pet food, or trying to convert readers to a philosophical viewpoint. She simply dispenses intelligent, easy-to-follow advice for feeding your pets a diet of raw meaty bones, meat and vegetables. Diet plans are clearly explained and arranged according to species (dog or cat) and your pet's weight, with ratios of how much to feed your pet, how often to feed and suggested monthly menu plans for variety. There's also excellent info on dietary supplements and meal additions if needed, as well as good advice on treats and troubleshooting health problems that can be relieved or solved with simple diet changes. It should be noted that this is a US book so the measurements are not metric, but they're easily convertible. My dog is thriving on this plan, my pet food bills are amazingly low and it's so much more convenient than opening cans and packages. But the best result is how happy, healthy and beautiful my dog has become since starting the food plan a few months ago. I'm so glad I discovered this book.
THE book for those considering or feeding natural food August 28, 2000 72 out of 75 found this review helpful
This book contains all the necessary information to commence and continue to feed your cat and/or dog a natural diet. I changed my dogs from a commercial food to the natural food diet detailed here and saw an improvement in general health and condition, cleaner teeth and no more allergies or itchy ears
Natural Nutrition for Dogs an Cats February 16, 2010 Bob Book was just what I needed as I wanted to make sure I got the dietary requirements right for my dog and cats. Their coat has changed and is much softer and glowing even after a few days. However, note to editor... the measures are all American, when they reprint they could put in metric and imperial. Also, the menus at the back of the book are in tiny print so I stopped trying to decipher them! Otherwise did what it said on the label. Many thanks
Common-sense guide to feeding you dogs & cats December 31, 2009 Mrs. J. Smith (Surrey, England) I hadn't had a dog for nine years, so I thought I would do some research before the new puppy arrived. I came across this book on natural nutrition, and all became clear. I had fed my previous dog on the canine equivalent to Burgers and Fries! The cat was changed over too, to his great delight.
It is just plain common sense. Why hadn't I realised this by myself years ago? I don't think anyone who has read this with an open mind could possibly go back to giving commercial food to their animals.
When was the last time you saw pets making their own bread? Never. When was the last time your cat brought in half a mouse? Exactly! Common Sense.
