| Customer Reviews: Cat Flap May 11, 2009 J. Boulton Easy to fit, essential in areas with many other cats. Stops unwanted visitors. Battery lasts at least a year. Cats don't have any problem waiting for the click to show the door is open.
Very satisfied
needs a bigger hole than most! January 16, 2010 M. Fraser (London) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have a white one of these, bought for my newly acquired moggy, hopefully to let her have a bit of freedom especially as I am out at work a lot, without letting the rest of the neighbourhood cat population in.
It works pretty well - had a problem for a while with it not shutting properly but replaced the battery and that fixed it. Initial problem was that it needed a bigger hole in the door than the previous catflap. An hour with a drill and hacksaw fixed that, but I am a bit concerned that I won;t be able to replace it for another catflap in the future without buying a new door or doing a patch-up job which will look rubbish.
Anyway, Harley the Cat, who hadn;t used a catflap before, took a week or two to get the hang of it (she's not all that bright bless her) but now happily zooms in and out as she wishes, occasionally having nose-to-nose hissy stand offs with other cats who peer in through the catflap door. 4 months on, the plastic door is all scratched from these handbag fights but I'm not too worried about that. However, there is another local cat who can get in through it, who helps himself to Harley's Go-Cat which she is none too pleased about and stresses her out a bit . I'm sticking with it for the time being, but may have to replace it for a microchip-triggered catflap if the intruder cat situation doesn't settle down - although not sure how I'll do this now I have a great big hole in my door!
Also - Harley somehow managed to lose her collar with the magnet on the first day out and so got shut out - it comes with two magnets but I have now invested in spares in case this happens again.
Works but ... February 18, 2010 AnneC (UK) I gave up using the electromagnetic feature after magnets getting lost, cat coming home with metal objects - even a fork! - clinging to the magnet and fear that the cat might strangle itself through the collar getting caught on something. The door worked fine as a simple cat flap without the battery but my problem now is that the dog has broken it by forcing her way through. As an earlier reviewer foresaw, the only replacement flap which will fit is this one and it's not cheap! By the way, anyone having the same problem with smallish dogs using the cat flap, the solution I found was a letter box cage fitted upside down over the cat flap with a small portion cut out to allow the cat through.
